What’s the big deal about Capture Pages?

Here’s what I love about what I do!
Someone asks a question and I get to share the answer with not only them but with a wider audience.
Now the reality is, I didn’t invent Capture pages, who knows who invented them.
The point is we use them or some form of them in our business everyday!

We don’t know what we don’t know

Or do we?!?!?

Have you ever been to a training or conference and the person on the stage is very engaging?
They getting the audience really involved in his talk…. but he’s talking about something you have no clue what it is?
And it just happens to be the foundation of everything that he’s going to be talking about.
You were probably feeling like the only fool who doesn’t know what the man is talking about right?
Well fear not you probably won’t the only person there that didn’t know.
But bring that down to a scenario where it’s you and one other person.
Same scenario, they’re talking to you about something and you have NOT a clue but you’re just going along with it because well you don’t want to look “stupid”.
Have you ever felt like that before?
 
I did quite often when I had to go to “functions” with my husband, and I really didn’t know what the topic of conversation was on. He always told me to go and read the news before we left, but I never listened.
Anyway so we’re talking that kind of awkward. So you’ve been down that road right?
Well I was talking to a friend who’s interested in a online marketing business and I was telling her about all the tools she will possibly need.
And one of them was you could guess it…..
Capture Pages.
And I’m talking to her about Capture Pages as if she really knows what it is and how you use one.
 
There’s a basic structure to a capture page, but before we get into that let’s first define it shall we?
 

What is a Capture Page

I never tire of explaining this. Because it’s effectively the only way to connect online.
Short of you asking people to leave feedback like I did above, you will need to have a capture page similar to this one.
A capture page or landing page as it has become known now is simply a website.
But it’s the most basic of websites that have one single purpose.
That is to get your prospects or potential clients contact information.
A lot of business people get this concept confused.
They think the purpose of the Capture Page is to sell to people.
The answer to that is NO.
You’re capture page is there to serve the purpose of information transfer.
You transferring information to them and they transferring information to you.
 

Basic Structure of the Capture Page

So let’s start.

The Pre-headline

Think of this as calling out the people you actually want to connect with.
You’re basically saying, “Hey Stay at Home Mom!”
Automatically anyone who isn’t a SAHM isn’t going to read past the first line.
Now again this is where it’s important to really have a handle on who your ideal customer is.
If you know that then crafting the pre-headline is a piece of cake.
 

The Headline

This is the most important part of your capture page.
Without a headline you effectively don’t have a capture page.
You need to tell people why there are there and what you are going to give them for being there.
Again knowing your customer inside out will help in crafting a high converting headline.
You have to basically reach into the mind of your potential customer and complete the sentence they’re having in their mind.
Then you let them know you have a solution to that exact problem they were just thinking about.
 

The Call-to-Action

Next is the Call to Action or CTA.
Now in the example above the CTA is a single text line.
A call to action is just that. Something that instructs the visitor about what to do.
Very often it’s a good idea now a days to record a quick video of yourself with the CTA in the video.
Now your video isn’t going to say – “Enter your name and email address below to get my FREE …… (whatever you’re giving away)”
No your video is going to be the quickest value you can give them in the shortest possible time.
So if your target is the SAHM then you want to connect with some pain or desire that a SAHM will have and then tell them to your FREE solution to that pain or desire enter their name and email below.
It will look something like this.

The Opt-in Form

The last part of  your Capture page is the  easiest.
But oddly enough I’ve actually seen what looked like a Capture Page but I had no where to put in my information.
Now you can assume that was an innocent error on the part of the person building the page, but you must always always ensure you have some where for your potential customer or client to put their information into.
 
So this has been the simple structure of the basic capture page.
