Be Open To Learn
To empty your cup……
What does it mean?
Well in a nutshell you can say that it means you are open to learning.
But what does open to learning look like?
Last year I had several conversations with people who knew everything.
And who quite frankly told me they are not interested in learning anything new.
They knew all they need to know to be successful in business.
—- go figure right —– because they ARE actually successful in business.
Now it isn’t too difficult to find these days, people who are just not interested in learning anything new.
I can understand that.
That is exactly why I’m here to let you know that you need to be open to learning.
I have three degrees!
I was on my way to get a PhD when I decided to take a break from education and go and work.
When I started to get “serious” about my business, one of the first things I did was go and read!
Then it required that I read some more.
It was a little boring at first.
Then I started attending webinars.
The learning continued.
Then I started to attend conferences!
Where the learning continued!
Then I attended a workshop!
It was there that I was told, the learning will never stop.
You see if you’re not willing to Learn, you might as well say, “I’m not willing to EARN”
Think about this for one minute.
Do you know anyone who has been with the same company, in the same job for the last 20 years?
If you do what is the ONE characteristic that stands out in the person more than anything else?
If you said, they are NOT willing to LEARN, then you’re absolutely right.
I’ve met people who have worked with companies for over 20 years, but they have had close to 15 different jobs.
Now that’s an open person.
That’s the kind of person who will actually do extremely well in business if they took a chance on business!
They display the one characteristic that is so important.
If you decide that because you have a marketing degree, you don’t need to learn anything about marketing.
Then YOU will never market.
If I told myself that I have two engineering degrees there is nothing more I can possibly learn about design of experiments…….. then can bet your last dollar I will LEARN nothing more!
The old saying goes, You have to empty the glass before you can put more wine into it.
Be willing to Learn, and Learn more each day.
Then you’ll able to do more for yourself and others. It’s the principle of Learn Do Teach
So today go and learn something that will benefit your business.

So very true! I am always amazed at just how much there is to learn, and the fact that we can never possibly know it all. And I get excited about learning new things! Thanks for sharing this post.
I’m happy to share and motivate. Glad you enjoyed this post.
Funny thing? Last night I dreamt I was being asked about what courses I have taken, and what things I have learned…and then I see this. Coincidence? Who knows? Any time I think I know “enough,” I find new opportunities to learn. For me, it can be pretty exciting!
Lol that is amazing. I don’t know if you’re an NCIS fan but you know there’s no such thing as a coincidence. So what’s on your list of things to learn this year?
It really is about learning and growing. I made a comment a while back… I blog so that I can continually empty my cup to learn more.
I love the new look and feel of your blog! Thank you for sharing and being an amazing leader. I am so proud to call you my friend!
