The term “Knowledge is Power” was first coined by Sir Francis Bacon dating all the way back to 1597!
The essence of the saying was that the more one knows, the more one will be able to control events.
This saying sparked generations of people seeking knowledge.
It’s why your parents in this era probably shared countless images like this one.
All in an effort to get you to stay in school.
Well let’s take a reality check.
There are tons of people in the world with vast amount of knowledge.
I often called them the Jeopardy contestants.
Very early in my academic career I noticed that it wasn’t always the “brightest” kids that got ahead.
I couldn’t put my finger on what the concept was, but it was clear to me that knowing stuff didn’t matter so as DOING something with that knowledge.
What I found was that the people who DID things seems to get ahead more than the people who just KNEW things.
Sometimes the DOERS never “knew” anything so to speak of. They just acted and that action brought the knowledge.
Very often as adults we fall into this trap.
It’s not our fault really. After all we’ve been pushed into education and learning.
And if you’re like me you would have done that for about 24 years straight. (That would get you all the way through to 1 Undergraduate degree and 2 Master’s degrees).
So with all this knowledge what are you suppose to do with it?
Get a job right?!?!?
Well when you get that job you only use about 15% of what you spent 24 years learning.
And here’s the kicker!!! Most of what you’re using, on the job, you learned in the first 10 years of your education!
No I’m serious! You’ll probably use about 1% of what you learned from either your Master’s or Bachelor degree.
So you can see why as an adult you’re not used to applying any knowledge because our systems aren’t designed that way.
So you’re probably asking yourself what’s my point?
Well you’re a business owner of some sort right?
And you are on the internet trying to learn how to be a better business owner.
So you’re buying and consuming all these “online courses”. You spend night after night watching webinars right?
But what have you DONE with this information? Are you still spinning your wheels? Going round in circles trying to figure out how this is going to work in your business?
Here’s one thing that I’ve learned in my business journey.
The longer you wait to DO anything, the longer it will take for success to come.
I know it’s a little difficult sometimes to come out of our comfort zones and actually DO something, but your business success depends on it.
I’d be honest with you, I’ve purchased quite a few online programs. I started and stopped. The ones that forced me to do something I got great value out of.
The ones that were more like classroom setting I did nothing with. (and it probably hurt my business)
But here’s what I’m telling you today, before you go and judge another online product or program for what it did NOT do to help you, I want you to ask yourself the question –
Did I do anything with the knowledge I received from this program?

If you can’t answer in the affirmative then give it a second chance.
Try to apply the knowledge you consumed.
Trust me that’s the hard part – Learning is easy – Application is difficult

So try applying some knowledge today and make it a great day for you and your business!
I’d love to hear what you’re going to apply today in your business that you’ve learned in the last month! And share with others.

Because I was applying everything I learned, today I spent time in the bank depositing money. You’re so right, that the hardest part about knowledge is the application. But it has very literal payoffs.
So true Ruth! If we can all see that action is the answer we’d get alot further in life.
