7 Ways a Mother Can Put Food on The Table

Now I didn’t intentionally go out looking for these things.
This is how my journey into the online world of business happened.

It all started with my husband and I getting pregnant!

Even though I had a good paying job and relative security.
I knew I did not want to be at work while my daughter was at home.
It would be a year after she was born that I would be able to leave my job.

But the journey began because of my daughter.
She continues to be the reason I work hard at my online businesses!
Two years after her birth, my husband shared this article with me.
It was titled “Top 7 Lucrative Internet Business Ideas”
[Tweet “”Top 7 Lucrative Internet Business Ideas” “]
What’s so interesting about this is article is that I’ve been implementing almost everyone of these ideas.

So I’m convinced that mothers can and should start implementing some of these.
It will be a perfect opportunity for mother’s to leave their jobs and be more apart of their family life.
It will give them the flexibility needed to manage a home and a business and children without having to sacrifice either.
So what are these 7 business ideas that I think every mother should explore?

#1 Online Retailing

Gone are the days when we sell from door to door.
Or kitchen table to kitchen table.
Or trunk show to trunk show!
I don’t know about you, but I’m a busy mother of ONE!!!! Far less for those mothers who have three, four and five!
If you’re selling anything it needs to be online.
Online retailing is getting so simple that you can do it with your eyes closed.
Paypal, Stripe and Amazon have become everyone’s best friend.
Yes there are going to be fees,
but think of that part as your rent you would have paid to the mall for setting up a front store.
It’s not that hard, nor is it that expensive.
So if you have something to sell, start selling!

#2 Web Design

I don’t do this for money!
I just do it for myself.
But having built three websites already for personal use and one for a client – who just happens to be my father –
I think I have the skills to “build” a website.
When I was getting my engineering degree you needed to know a lot of code in order to build a website.
It wasn’t as easy as it today.
I still wouldn’t venture into building anyone’s website from scratch, but I know I can do it if I needed to.
And guess what – I will never have to leave my house if I wanted to do that.

#3 Affiliate Marketing

You may be thinking that this is just like network marketing.
Have you ever recommended a product on Amazon and got paid for it?
Have you ever recommended a piece of software and got paid for it.
How about all those free services you signed up for and then gave the company your friends.
You will get paid for that if anyone signs up!
Does that model look familiar to you!
It’s called Affiliate Marketing.
Amazon decided to call it Amazon Associates.
But guess what it’s the same thing.
The company I work very closely with as an affiliate is Elite Marketing Pro.
I recommend products and get a commission from the product sold!
I’m also an Amazon Associate.
And when we talk about blogging you will also learn that I’m an affiliate of that blogging course as well!

#4 Freelancing

Freelancing is something very easy that a mother can jump into.
You can use your blog or sites like Fiverr, Odesk etc to outsource your services.
You can literally create a lucrative business from just starting at offering services at $5!
How do you think I became an Social Media Consultant!

#5 Social Media Consultant

One of the principles inside Elite Marketing Pro is Learn Do and Teach.
Why do I love that model, because it has allowed me to become a Social Media Consultant and The Social Media Manager at Elite Marketing Pro.
Apart from offering one-on-one coaching with clients to help them undertand the ins and outs of Facebook Marketing and other digital marketing efforts, my team and I develop strategies and manage client’s I would not be able to offer this service online if it wasn’t for all that I learned and continue to learn through
Elite Marketing Pro.

#6 Blogging

When I started blogging almost six years ago – I had no clue what I was doing.
I didn’t know you could blog for money.
I didn’t know you blog had to have structure…..
A theme…..
A purpose….
NADA!!!
I knew nothing.
Turned out that when I became an affiliate of Elite Marketing Pro you get introduced to a special group of people.
Well at least our team within EMP.
You see this team of people consisted  of online marketing leaders!
And yes if you spend enough time with them, you yourself become a leader (I’m living proof!)
Anyway.
It was through EMP Team on Fire (our team) that I met my blogging coach.
This blog that you’re on right now is a direct result of me implementing!
Yes there is an “ing” at the end of the word “implement”
I am still implementing everything that she teaches in her blogging course.

The one thing that I have learned about blogging is that you’re NEVER DONE!

#7 Online Tutor

Being an online tutor of anything that you have enough knowledge in is very simple.
You can offer these courses through webinars;
You can do personal one-on-one tutoring or
You can utilize YouTube!
Either way online tutoring is a very lucrative business.
My business partner and I are moving in that direction. We are taking our LIVE tutoring and going to be putting it online!

I’m not the Mom trying to put food on the table but I am the Dad trying to bring home the bacon! ..and I would rather have to leave the home office and run to the store instead of picking it up after work on the way home!
… That said Blogging / Affiliate Marketing has become my choice from the options Hilary talks about here. #baconrocks

Three cheers for bringing home the bacon!!!!
